Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

from Christmas Songs by Loren Radis

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is a song introduced by Judy Garland in the 1944 MGM musical Meet Me in St. Louis. Frank Sinatra later recorded a version with modified lyrics, which has become more common than the original. The song was written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane. In 2007, ASCAP ranked "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" the third most performed Christmas song during the preceding five years that had been written by ASCAP members."

Another of my favorites, I realized how good this song could sound with a simple acoustic arrangement when I heard Bebo Norman's version. It's so heartfelt and really moving, I wanted to try to emulate that style with my cover. For what started off as a kind of bitter song about a bad Christmas with a dash of hope for the future, this has over the years become one of the most positive songs about the importance of friends and family.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the yuletide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dears to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years we all witll be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow

And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
